The 2016 Kaikura earthquake highlighted the seismic vulnerability of concrete floors in existing buildings, especially precast floors (Henry et al 2017). Based on the post-earthquake observations, one of the key aspects of the seismic vulnerability of existing precast floors was their performance as a diaphragm.
