The William Weir Wing of Weir House, a heritage-listed 1930 hall of residence in Kelburn housing about 90 students, was strengthened as part of Victoria University of Wellington's earthquake programme. Most of the work was outside and under the building, with new concrete beams and ground anchors, and inside work was limited to the lower floors. It ran from about November 2024 to April 2025, timed around the summer break, with the entrance and landscaping finished early in the 2025 year.
