The Symphony Centre is a planned 21-storey building on the corner of Wellesley Street and Mayoral Drive, rising directly over the City Rail Link's Te Waihorotiu station. The site, a former council car park of about 4,780 m², is held on a 125-year lease. The plans stack three uses. Shops and hospitality fill the lower floors. About 18,970 m² of offices sit across eight floors above them, and 78 apartments sit at the top. The facade is made of glass-reinforced concrete panels carrying a poutama pattern, a Māori design of stepped lines that represents growth and learning. The building targets 5 Green Star and 6-star NABERSNZ ratings, and construction is planned to follow the completion of the station below.
