Queens Arcade has linked lower Queen Street to Customs Street East since 1929, and it has stayed with the same family owners the whole time. A refurbishment of more than $5 million began on 1 April 2026 and is due to finish in November. The arcade is being reshaped as a luxury retail and wellness destination. A smaller number of tenancies will suit flagship and appointment-only businesses, with premium retail on the ground floor and a health and wellness hub on Level 1. The arcade has been refreshed before. A 1980–81 rebuild added the glazed atrium, and a 2013 refurbishment restored the coffered ceilings and Whangārei marble columns.
