Pūtaiao Koiora is the former School of Biological Sciences research building at the University of Canterbury, emptied after an assessment found it did not meet the current building code. The project is strengthening the building and reinstating high-quality research labs for biosciences and engineering, with expanded PC2 containment capacity. The first package covers strip-out, structural strengthening and services work, preparing the building for a later refit. Works began on 20 July 2026 and are programmed to run until December 2027.
