Te Kaha is Christchurch's covered stadium, built on a central city block to replace Lancaster Park, which was damaged beyond repair in the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes. Ground was broken in April 2022 and it opened on 27 March 2026. A steel roof clad in ETFE spans the whole bowl 32 m above the ground, so games and concerts go ahead whatever the weather. The pitch can be lifted out and replaced. The stadium seats 25,000 for sport, which can go up to 30,000, and holds 37,000 for concerts. The name Te Kaha means "the strength" and was gifted by Ngāi Tūāhuriri.
