The NZICC fills a block between Hobson, Nelson and Wellesley Streets in central Auckland. It is the largest convention centre in the country, able to host events of up to 4,000 delegates. Inside are a 2,850-seat theatre, a 6,700 m² exhibition hall and 33 meeting spaces, linked by a 100 m gallery that runs the length of the building. The heritage facades of the Berlei building and the Albion hotel were kept at street level. Above them, an artwork in coloured glass wraps the upper facade. Work began in 2016, and a fire in 2019 badly damaged the building and set the project back by years. It finally opened on 11 February 2026. Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei gifted the name Te Tumu.
