The Outpatients Whare Mātūtū on St Andrew Street is the first finished building of the new Dunedin Hospital. It opened on 28 August 2026, and patient services began moving in from October. The five-storey building has about 15,000 m² of floor space. It holds outpatient clinics, day procedures, medical infusion, four operating theatres and a radiology department with MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound. Its foundations are 78 piles driven to an average depth of 19 m. The building targets a 5 Green Star rating. A pedestrian bridge will connect it to the much larger inpatient building, which is due to open in 2031.
