Karanga-a-Hape is the City Rail Link station under Karangahape Road. At 33 m below ground, it is the deepest railway station in New Zealand. Entrances at Mercury Lane and Beresford Square lead down to the platforms. From Beresford Square, passengers ride a 40 m escalator, the longest in the country. The ceiling design draws on pūpūrangi snail shells and kauri. The name means "the call of Hape". Building the station meant digging 61,000 m³ of spoil out of the Mercury Lane site alone. The tunnel boring machine first broke through here in October 2021, and the station opened on 13 September 2026.
