New Zealand's first IKEA store opened at Sylvia Park in Mount Wellington on 4 December 2025, about two and a half years after work began on the site. It is a big building by any local measure, covering around 34,000 m² over three floors. Parking is at ground level, with the store on the two levels above, where more than 7,500 home furnishing products are on display alongside a Swedish restaurant and bistro. The store has its own entrance but also links straight into the rest of Sylvia Park. Rooftop solar panels supply about half of the building's energy, the lighting is all LED, and the car park has 25 EV chargers.
