The Fale Pasifika and its office complex on the University of Auckland City Campus closed in mid-August 2026 for a major refurbishment and upgrade. Opened in 2004, the Fale is the centre of Pacific life on campus and one of the largest Pacific meeting houses in the southern hemisphere. Construction is starting in the third quarter of 2026, with reopening expected in September 2027. A working group of Pacific and Māori academic staff is guiding the redesign so the building keeps its cultural and architectural significance while being fit for long-term use.
