The City Rail Link lets Auckland run more frequent trains, and the rest of the network had to keep up. This package upgraded four places outside the CRL to make room for the extra services. At The Strand in Parnell, a new track crossover went in, with 140 m of new track, 10 traction masts and 4 signal masts, finishing in January 2019. Ōtāhuhu station gained a third platform, a new entrance and overbridge, 1.3 km of new track and four crossovers. Newmarket's junction got an extra connection between the Western and Southern lines. At Henderson, work on a third platform, more track and an emergency exit bridge started in October 2024.
