This package covers the systems that make the City Rail Link run: power supply, overhead lines, signalling and the control system for the whole route from Waitematā to Maungawhau. It was awarded in October 2020 together with the Maungawhau junction works, for $825 million combined. Track was laid using battery-electric locomotives based at Quay Park. Test trains first ran through on 13 February 2025, ahead of more than a year of testing and commissioning. Construction finished in June 2026, and since the line opened on 13 September 2026, trains have run through the tunnels about every four minutes at peak times.
